BIG OIL IS AFRAID YOU’LL SUPPORT THIS NEW CLIMATE POLICY
Oil and gas companies are Canada’s worst climate culprits - producing more emissions than any other sector in the country. Even amid the climate crisis, they have big plans to increase fossil fuel production, and they're fighting tooth and nail to kill a promising new federal policy that's in the works to cap emissions from the oil and gas sector.
This policy would prevent oil and gas companies from playing fast and loose with our climate. It would limit the emissions industry is allowed to produce, and make sure those emissions go down over time - enabling Canada to reach its goal of zero emissions by 2050.
However - the oil and gas industry is ready to attack the policy, using their lobbying power to delay, weaken and render it useless. If the federal government bends to their demands, Canada will remain one of the worst contributors to global warming. It’s time to tell the federal government that we support a strong oil and gas emissions cap - and they should too.
A strong oil and gas emissions cap will:
- Place a hard cap on emissions, meaning that oil and gas companies won’t ever be able to pollute above current levels again.
- Reduce emissions immediately, and ensure emissions are reduced by 60% by the year 2030.
- Make sure that all types of emissions are reduced, not just those that come from extracting and refining oil and gas. Emissions that come from burning oil and gas need to be included too, or else we’re ignoring 80% of the problem.
Tell Prime Minister Trudeau that his legacy will depend on the strength of the oil and gas emissions cap!
