STOP PASSING THE BUCK - STRENGTHEN OUR TOXICS LAWS NOW!
Our latest report, Passing The Buck: the toxic cost of dollar store products, highlights how weak regulations and loopholes, unlabelled toxics, the lack of product testing and weak enforcement are putting the health of children and communities at risk. Low-income and racialized communities are disproportionately impacted because they are unable to access more expensive, non-toxic alternatives.
Retailers pass the buck to regulators when they justify these unacceptable lead levels in products, and regulators do the same when they don’t create strong, comprehensive laws that protect our health and the environment. We need to get these heavy metals and hazardous chemicals out of our household items, toys and food packaging, and improve our legislation to hold retailers like these dollar stores accountable.
