WORKERS NEED A STRONG PLAN FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE - SPEAK UP NOW
Our industries and economy are changing to address the climate crisis.
The federal government has proposed its “Sustainable Jobs Legislation”. This would support workers and communities impacted by the move away from polluting industries and into the low-carbon economy. But the plan still needs improvement in order to be truly sustainable. We cannot allow for half-measures in the climate crisis.
The proposed legislation opens the door for false solutions to the climate crisis - such as carbon capture which fuels more oil production and fossil hydrogen which is highly polluting in its production. Relying on these technologies is not truly a ‘sustainable jobs’ plan. In fact, it could leave Canadian workers stranded in a high-carbon past as the rest of the world moves on.
It’s time to improve this legislation. Together we can send a message to the government that a Sustainable Jobs Legislation cannot allow for false solutions to the climate crisis. What’s more, it cannot ignore obligations towards Indigenous peoples and cannot take a one-size-fits-all approach in a transition to a sustainable future. We need local planning with workers and communities that reflects the specific needs and differences of regions across Canada.
Tell the federal government you want a strong and fair transition to sustainable future
