NOW'S OUR CHANCE: DEMAND COMPREHENSIVE ACTION ON "FOREVER CHEMICALS"
PFAS — a.k.a. “forever chemicals” — are found in everything from our drinking water to our cookware to our cosmetics. This ongoing exposure means these chemicals are also accumulating in our bodies and the environment, posing a significant health risk.
Health Canada’s recent State of the Science report confirms this risk, including higher rates of kidney disease and cancer. The federal government is now considering an approach to restricting PFAS, but many sources of exposure are left out of the proposed regulations, including consumer products.
Right now, we have the chance to advocate for more! Let’s demand comprehensive regulations that protect us from all sources of PFAS exposure.
Under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, our federal government has the responsibility to protect human and environmental health. Health Canada can hold companies accountable, regulate the use of PFAS in the marketplace, and stop these chemicals at their source.
Join us in calling for:
• A ban on PFAS as a class of chemicals, with limited exemptions
• Investment in the necessary tools to remove PFAS from drinking water
• Accountability mechanisms to ensure polluters, like importers, contribute to cleanup efforts
Add your voice to urge the Ministers of Environment and Health to utilize the legislative tools at their disposal for a comprehensive ban on PFAS.
Your letter will be sent to The Honourable Minister Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and The Honourable Minister Mark Holland, Minister of Health. A copy will also be sent to your MP.
