TAKE ACTION TO CLEAN UP CANADA’S FINANCIAL SECTOR

Canadian financial institutions like banks and pension funds are not yet aligned with a safe climate - and while our federal government is guiding other sectors to cut pollution, there are no policies yet to fix finance. Financial institutions continue to invest too much in polluting sectors and not enough in climate solutions.

Redirecting the financial sector is key for Canada to succeed on climate action. We can create a safe climate and stable economy by reducing the money flowing into fossil fuels - and technologies like carbon capture that allow for more fossil fuel production - and helping to mobilize finance for true climate solutions like renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Communities across the country are feeling the costs of climate disasters and solutions can’t wait. The voluntary “green” commitments of the financial sector are not enough. Canada must set rules to ensure investments go into climate solutions that keep us safe and healthy. This means passing policies that require all financial institutions to develop credible plans and reduce their investments’ harmful emissions.

Tell the Prime Minister to hold Canada's financial sector accountable for real climate action!
Your message will be sent to the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland; Member of Parliament, Daniel Blaikie (NDP Finance critic); Member of Parliament Jean-Denis Garon (Bloc Sustainable Finance shadow cabinet)
