PUT THE BREAKS ON THE BRAMPTON MEGA WASTE INCINERATOR
Emerald Energy from Waste, a privately-owned waste incinerator on the border between Brampton and Mississauga in Peel Region, is planning to quadruple its operations to become the largest waste burning facility in Canada.
More garbage burning means more air pollution, including toxic emissions that can cause cancer, asthma and chronic lung disease. We cannot accept more toxic air pollution in an area already overburdened with industrial and transportation emissions. Peel residents don’t deserve to breathe Ontario’s garbage.
Incineration is not a solution for waste management. In order to justify the millions of dollars spent on the expansion, the incinerator will require a constant flow of waste to burn. Even if area residents and businesses reduce the amount of waste they generate, Emerald will just truck in waste from Toronto and other regions of southern Ontario.
This private company wants to make Brampton the garbage-burning capital of Ontario, without even giving local residents a real say. This incinerator will impact the health of surrounding communities and the environment. The government needs to step in.
Tell Andrea Khanjin that you DO NOT want more plastic and waste burning in Brampton.
Your letter will be sent to Ontario's Environment Minister Andrea Khanjin and Ontario's Acting Environment Minister Todd J. McCarthy.
