Stop Highway 413!
Premier Ford is doing everything he can to bully his way to ramming his destructive Highway 413 megaproject through farms, forests and the Greenbelt. To pave the way, he has rolled back environmental protection rules and forced sprawl on Brampton and Caledon to help his billionaire developer friends.
This highway will destroy 2000 acres of farmland and 400 acres of the Greenbelt and damage many beloved Conservation Areas in Peel and York Regions. The highway will slash the Nashville Conservation Reserve in half, cut across pristine streams and waterways that feed the Humber and Credit rivers and chop up what is currently a broad swathe of natural areas into pieces and pockets which won't be able to sustain the same beautiful diversity of plants and animals.
Fortunately, the federal government can stop him. They have legal approval authority over threats to federal species at risk, migratory birds, fish, and Indigenous consultation. Whenever projects threaten these values, they have responsibility to review with a federal impact assessment.
The Federal Government can and should act to stop the destructive Highway 413.
Without federal oversight, Premier Ford will happily waste 10 billion taxpayer dollars on a 10 lane mega-highway which will cross over 100 creeks and rivers, destroy the best remaining forests in York region, create gridlock and perpetuate expensive climate-destroying sprawl development.
Tell Minister Guilbeault and your local MP to enforce federal laws and stop Highway 413!
Your letter will be sent to the Ministers of the Environment and Natural Resources and your local MP.
