CANADA: TAKE THE PLEDGE AND COMMIT TO STANDING UP FOR CLIMATE ACTION!
In Canada and around the world, the signs of a dangerously warming climate are overwhelmingly clear. Heatwaves, floods, ice storms and wildfires continue to threaten our communities. In 2023, wildfire season was Canada’s most destructive on record, burning more than 18 million hectares across the country causing Canadian cities to have some of the worst air quality on the planet. In the same summer, some cities experienced floods, causing damage to personal property and infrastructure, while other cities experienced the hottest months ever recorded globally leading to serious health impacts from heat waves and crop failure due to droughts.
2024 is predicted to be hotter, drier and smokier than 2023. This cannot continue.
For decades, oil and gas companies have profited from harmful activities that fuel the climate crisis. What’s more, fossil fuel companies have been doing everything in their power to delay, weaken and block policies that would make our lives and communities healthier and greener. If oil and gas companies hadn’t spent the last 50 years doing everything in their power to prevent climate progress, we would be in a very different place today.
But there is hope for a healthy future, through collective action and people power. We’re building a people-led movement to push the Canadian governments of all levels towards stronger climate action. But we have a long way to go. Our country’s emissions are still on the rise, strong climate policy could change that. You can help by joining our community and pledging to become a climate advocate.
If you have been looking for a way to make a difference - this is it. One of those ways is voting in all elections – municipal, provincial and federal – for candidates that make climate action a priority. Pushing all governments for stronger action on climate change has never been so important.
Take the pledge to become a climate advocate, and vote for elected officials who make climate action a priority to protect you and your family from climate disasters.
