TAKE ACTION TO SUPPORT THE POLLUTION CAP

Canada has a historic opportunity to drastically reduce its pollution. With record-breaking temperatures and growing threats to our health, economy and environment, Canada’s climate ambition depends on a strong oil and gas pollution cap to reduce fossil fuel greenhouse gas pollution.

The recent release of the draft pollution cap regulations is a step in the right direction, but the federal government must move quickly to finalize the pollution cap. Without the cap in place, the oil and gas industry will continue to pump out more pollution, causing environmental and climate damage affecting our health, environment, economy and our future. It is time for the fossil fuel industry to clean up its own mess.

Tell the federal government to safeguard our future and urgently finalize the pollution cap to reduce oil and gas pollution at the scale needed to fight climate change.

We urgently need a robust pollution cap that’s free of loopholes that oil and gas companies can exploit. To ensure the federal government gets to the finish line, we are calling for the regulation to:

  1. Not be delayed any further. This means the federal government must have the final oil and gas pollution cap in place by March 2025.
  2. Reduce emissions in line with Canada’s goals for the whole economy: a 40-45 percent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, from 2005 levels, by 2030.
  3. Remove all loopholes allowing the oil and gas industry to bypass their responsibility to reduce pollution. The pollution cap must ensure real emissions cuts are coming from the fossil fuel industry.

Tell Prime Minister Trudeau, no more delays and no more excuses - the fossil fuel industry must take responsibility for their pollution now!
