TELL THE PROVINCE TO REFUSE THE EXPANSION OF THE MEGA-INCINERATOR IN BRAMPTON

Emerald Energy from Waste, a privately-owned waste incinerator on the border between Brampton and Mississauga in Peel Region, is planning to quadruple its operations to become the largest waste burning facility in Canada.

Despite Emerald’s greenwashing tactics to convince Peel residents that incineration is a waste management strategy, we know that burning garbage leads to more air pollution that can cause cancer, asthma and chronic lung disease.

The Province MUST step in to stop Brampton from becoming the garbage-burning capital of Ontario.

Incineration is not a solution for waste management. In order to justify the millions of dollars spent on the expansion, the incinerator will require a constant flow of waste to burn. Even if area residents and businesses reduce the amount of waste they generate, Emerald will just truck in waste from Toronto and other regions of southern Ontario to meet their capacity.

Please tell The Environment Minister that you DO NOT want more waste burning in Brampton.

Your letter will be sent to Ontario's Environment Minister Andrea Khanjin and Ontario's Acting Environment Minister Todd J. McCarthy. CC: Acting Director of Environmental Permissions Branch,Tesfaye Gebrezghi, Brampton City Councillors, Brampton and Mississauga Members of Provincial Parliament, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party Bonnie Crombie, Leader of the New Democratic Party of Ontario Marit Stiles, Leader of the Ontario Greens Mike Schreiner.
