HAVE YOUR SAY TO REDUCE OIL AND GAS POLLUTION

This past November, the federal government released the draft rules for the oil and gas pollution cap —a much-needed measure to reduce the fossil fuel industry’s climate pollution. This is an important step. Now the federal government must move quickly to finalize the pollution cap. In the coming weeks, the government will determine the ambition of this regulation.

Your voice is key. Executives from the fossil fuel industry keep fighting these new rules – and some provincial leaders are helping them. We can’t let them get their way. Without the cap in place, oil and gas companies will continue to pump out more pollution, causing environmental and climate damage and affecting our health, environment, economy and our future. It is time for the fossil fuel industry to be held accountable for cleaning up its mess.

Don’t let the fossil fuel industry override the people’s will. Have your say to ensure that Canada finally limits oil and gas pollution.

We urgently need a robust pollution cap. To ensure the federal government gets to the finish line, we are calling for the regulation to:

  1. Not be delayed any further. This means the federal government must have the final oil and gas pollution cap in place by March 2025.
  2. Reduce oil and gas pollution in line with Canada’s goals for the whole economy: a 40-45 percent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, from 2005 levels, by 2030.
  3. Remove all loopholes allowing the oil and gas industry to escape their responsibility to reduce pollution. The pollution cap must ensure real emissions cuts are coming from the fossil fuel industry.

Until midnight on January 8th, the federal government is asking for feedback on the Pollution Cap and wants to hear from you. Don’t wait, take action now!

Your message will be sent to Environmental and Climate Change Committee Consultation on Greenhouse Gas Emissions Pollution Cap Regulation, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Steven Guilbeault, and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Hon. Jonathan Wilkinson.
