Now’s Our Chance: Demand Comprehensive Action On “Forever Chemicals”
PFAS — a.k.a. “forever chemicals” — are found in everything from our drinking water to our cookware and cosmetics. This ongoing exposure means these chemicals are also accumulating in our bodies and the environment, posing significant health risks.
Canada’s finalized PFAS State of the Science report confirms these risks, including higher rates of kidney disease and cancer. There is now a proposed approach to phasing out PFAS in products, but consultations aren’t set to begin until 2027!
People in Canada deserve better – we shouldn’t have to wait three years for the phaseouts to begin! Let’s demand faster regulations that protect us from PFAS exposure in products.
Under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, our federal government has the responsibility to protect human and environmental health. The next government must hold companies accountable for their harms to people and ecosystems, regulate the use of PFAS in the marketplace, and stop these chemicals at their source.
People in Canada have the right to a toxic-free future. Everyday products shouldn’t give us cancer, affect our immune systems, impact our fertility and harm our kids.
Add your voice to urge all party leaders to move quickly to implement a meaningful, comprehensive and impactful ban on PFAS.
Your message will be sent to Mark Carney, Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada; The Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party; Jagmeet Singh, Leader of the New Democratic Party; Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party; and Yves-François Blanchet, Leader of the Bloc Québécois.
