Time to Lower Bills and Pollution in Toronto's Next Energy Plan!

This year, Toronto’s major electricity agencies will release a plan outlining the sources of Toronto’s electricity for the next 20 years.

This plan - otherwise known as the Integrated Regional Resource Plan - is an opportunity to lower electricity bills and reduce air pollution by phasing out the city’s highly polluting gas plant, the Portlands Energy Centre, and integrating affordable renewable energy like wind and solar that are now the most cost-effective energy sources.

If the City of Toronto wants to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, it needs to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, and ramp up renewable energy generation as soon as possible!

Send a message demanding cleaner and cheaper energy generation for Toronto! An effective Integrated Regional Resource Plan must include…

  1. Increased rooftop solar: Toronto could phase out the Portlands Energy Centre by 2035 and meet at least 15 per cent of its additional energy needs by covering half of its eligible rooftops with solar panels.
  2. Increased electricity storage: Energy storage will allow electricity from wind and solar energy to be available any time regardless of weather conditions.
  3. Increased Energy efficiency: Toronto could meet at least a quarter of its additional electricity needs by 2035 with programs that reduce demand and maximize energy efficiency upgrades to reduce energy waste from buildings.

Take action now to demand an energy plan that ensures clean and affordable energy for Toronto!

Your message will be sent to the City's Technical Working Group and the Mayor of Toronto, Olivia Chow.
