Tell federal party leaders you want the next government to fight plastic pollution
People in Canada deserve more options to use – and discard – less plastic. At the same time, the ongoing trade war with the U.S. intensifies the need to make life more affordable in Canada.
By cutting our reliance on plastic packaging and products, which are often imported, and scaling up reuse and refill, Canada can better weather the economic storm and protect both the environment and our health from plastic.
We need to kick the plastic habit because there is just too much of it in our lives. We’re eating, drinking and breathing it in – and that’s why researchers are finding tiny particles of plastic wherever they look for them in the human body. The likely impacts on our health – from reproductive to cardiovascular – are truly worrisome. If we make, use and throw away less plastic, we can stop the accumulation in our bodies and the environment.
What’s more, it’s a waste to import packaging just to use it briefly and throw it in the garbage. Using packaging and products for a longer time, through reuse, refill and repair systems, is a great way to save people money and create local jobs.
Canada is on a good path to address the harms caused by plastic, including banning some harmful and unnecessary single-use products. But the next federal government must go further.
Tell federal party leaders that you are looking for candidates committed to continuing the fight against plastic pollution.
Your letter will be sent to the leaders of all federal parties.
