Bill 5 would keep Ontario dependent on fracked gas, repeal the Endangered Species Act and give the Premier Trump-like powers to immunize any person, business, or property he chooses from any (or every) provincial and municipal law.

This Bill represents a direct attack on species at risk, healthy communities, clean energy, the rights of Indigenous peoples, and the rule of law itself—for the benefit of  a handful of developers and big industry.

If passed, Bill 5, would:

• Repeal Ontario’s Endangered Species Act, 2007, marking the end of most meaningful protections for endangered, threatened and special concern species in Ontario.
• Give Premier Ford and his Cabinet the power to arbitrarily exempt "friends" or anyone else from any or all of Ontario's laws, along with any of their properties or projects.
• Keep Ontario dependent on imported fracked gas from the U.S by letting the government ban Chinese components in energy projects, shutting the door on clean, affordable wind and solar energy.
• Exempt the Premier’s preferred developers from the requirements of the Environmental Bill of Rights.
