Canadians deserve a place to live safely, breathe clean air, and build strong communities. But climate change is putting all of that at risk. 

Our country is enduring the second-worst wildfire season in history. Entire communities forced to flee, billions in damages, and lives lost. The science is clear: climate change is making disasters like heat waves, forest fires, droughts, and floods more frequent and more intense every year.

And yet, since taking office, Prime Minister Carney and his government have said remarkably little about climate change. For a leader once defined by climate warnings, the silence is deafening.

This backsliding comes at the worst moment. Provinces are filling the vacuum with talk of new pipelines and plans to keep coal alive. Meanwhile, Ottawa is busy meeting with oil and gas companies, the very industries most responsible for the crisis. Canada must not follow the U.S. down the path of doubling down on fossil fuels.  It is not too late to change course, but this is only possible if climate action remains a priority for the government. That’s real nation-building. We need action now.  

Prime Minister Carney entered office with a lot of credibility on climate. But now that he holds power, will he practice what he once preached, or will he abandon his values? Canadians deserve clarity, not contradictions. We need a government that moves forward, not one that drifts back into the grip of polluting industries. So we must ask: Prime Minister Carney, where is your climate plan?
