TELL OTTAWA CITY COUNCIL TO VOTE YES TO NEW SOLAR PROJECTS!
In the coming weeks, Ottawa City Council will vote on whether to support the development of up to four solar projects in the Ottawa area ranging from 13 MW-150 MW, the largest being in Dunrobin. These projects would provide clean and reliable electricity to homes in Ottawa and surrounding areas.
City Council must consider the numerous benefits of hosting solar projects:
-
Increased Energy Security. Developing renewable energy projects will reduce our dependence on importing dirty and expensive fossil fuels from the United States.
-
Lower Energy Bills. Renewables like wind and solar are the cheapest sources of new electricity globally.
-
Community Benefits. These types of projects bring many community benefits including local revenue for the Township’s annual budget, jobs directly on site or for local suppliers being contracted, and rent revenue for the landowner(s) involved.
-
Securing our future. Renewables can help us transition away from burning fossil gas, the main driver of climate change, which makes events like forest fires, floods and heatwaves much worse.
Renewable energy projects will allow us to meet our energy needs without relying on polluting, imported fossil gas.
