RESTORE PROTECTIONS FOR ONTARIO SPECIES
Ontario is home to many beautiful - but endangered - species of plants and animals. For almost 20 years, Ontario’s Endangered Species Act helped to ensure that new development avoided the habitat of these species whenever possible.
Unfortunately, our current provincial government has weakened these protections again and again, taking power away from biologists and scientists and handing it to politicians.
They instituted a ‘pay to slay’ policy which allows developers and real estate speculators to simply pay into a fund rather than protecting the homes of endangered species. In October 2025, they announced plans to remove provincial protections - and monitoring - for more than 106 species. Now the Endangered Species Act has been completely replaced with the much weaker Species Conservation Act.
Send an email to your local MPP today asking them to restore Ontario’s Endangered Species Act.
Your letter will be sent to your MPP based on your postal code.
