A study done by Ontario’s electricity operator found that wind and solar energy combined with battery storage can meet about 99.5% of Ontario’s electricity demand. Renewables can power Ontario’s future. Lets put #RenewablesON !

Background Information

In August 2025 the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) released a report demonstrating that wind and solar energy combined with battery storage can meet almost all of our peak1 and base-load2 electricity needs.

Additionally, the report found that using renewable energy storage was significantly cheaper than using nuclear reactors3.

With Ontario in the midst of one of the biggest energy acquisition processes in the province’s history - it is important now, more than ever, that we get the facts straight on how and why our communities need renewable energy.

Ontario residents must demonstrate to their elected officials that they want to see renewable projects in their communities. We can do this by highlighting the many ways renewable energy projects can meet our energy needs and contribute to the economic growth and environmental health of Ontario communities. This can influence councillors’ decision making when faced with whether to vote in favour of renewable energy projects.

We need your help taking up space on communication channels with accurate information about renewable energy!

1 Peak Load Electricity: the highest demand for electricity such as on really cold or really hot days where more air conditioning or heating is required
2 Base-load electricity: the electricity that is provided constantly, 24/7
3 The report found that using renewable energy storage was significantly cheaper ($15.7 to $24.5 billion) than using Small Modular reactors (SMRs) ( $97.1 to $120.0 billion)
