In early 2025, the Government of Alberta betrayed Albertans by quietly allowing coal mining back into the Eastern Slopes of the Rockies.  

We know this fight all too well. Albertans have tirelessly fought against any new coal mining and exploration in this region for years. The good news is we’ve won temporary victories in the past. If we work together, we can win once and for all!

The original 1976 Coal Policy was an important regulation that protected the Eastern Slopes, its headwaters, its wildlife and the economic well-being of many Albertans. Now, new coal mining operations are expected to tear up the Rockies, impacting grizzly bears and bull trout,  downstream agricultural operations, drinking water, Indigenous communities, and our climate. We need permanent protection against coal mining and a way to move Alberta’s clean energy future forward.

Tell the Alberta Government to Protect the Eastern Slopes and the rest of Alberta from coal mining operations.
