TELL THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO END PLASTIC POLLUTION NOW
Canada’s Federal Court of Appeal recently confirmed that the government has the authority to act on harmful, polluting plastics. That includes maintaining bans on single-use plastic items, like checkout bags and straws, and keeping them out of our rivers, lakes and coasts.
Now, it’s crucial that the government use this victory to end plastic pollution. As it stands, it’s virtually impossible to avoid the biggest source of plastic waste in Canada: single-use packaging and products. From the grocery store to food delivery, the amount of plastic is overwhelming.
Every day we wait for action, plastics and the toxic chemicals they contain continue to enter our bodies and build up in the environment—harming animals, their habitat and our health. Sign on to demand that the government ramp up measures to address out-of-control plastic pollution and shift away from single-use plastics, including:
- Banning more harmful and unnecessary plastic items
- Getting rid of harmful chemical additives used in plastics
- Requiring and supporting reuse and refill systems
The federal government has the opportunity, and the imperative, to protect our families and communities from plastics and the toxic chemicals they contain. By taking action now, they can ensure a win for the environment and our health, and support an economy that reduces waste and prioritizes reuse.
