Back in November 2025, Prime Minister Carney struck a deal with Alberta to fast-track a new oil pipeline to B.C.’s coast while rolling back key environmental protections.

Since then, PM Carney has been moving at breakneck speed. On August 1, the Government of Canada gave notice that they intend to list the West Coast Oil Pipeline as a project of national interest under the Building Canada Act. This listing allows the pipeline to proceed without proper environmental assessments or public accountability, essentially rubber-stamping approval on the West Coast pipeline. 

A new pipeline is a bad deal for Canada.

The proposed West Coast pipeline would put sensitive ecosystems and wildlife at risk, like endangered orca whales. A new pipeline leads to more climate pollution, and that means more wildfires, droughts and floods. First Nations have also warned that rushed approval processes would undermine Indigenous rights and the federal government’s duty to consult. 
Canada faces a choice. We can keep investing in new fossil fuel pipelines that benefit oil and gas companies while putting communities and ecosystems at risk, or we can invest in affordable energy that protects nature and builds a healthier future for people across Canada.

The public consultation process is open between now and September 18th, so we have a critical window to push back.

Act now and send a message to Prime Minister Carney, Minister Hodgson of Natural Resources Canada, and your local MP, asking them to reject Alberta’s pipeline and instead build more sustainable, renewable projects.
