Help create a better future

Protect Nature. Reject the Bulldoze Nature Bill that fast-tracks risky projects.

Last year, the federal government passed the Building Canada Act (Bill C-5), allowing projects designated as being in the national interest to circumvent important environmental laws that are meant to protect our water, nature and wildlife. Now, Bill C-39, or as we like to call it, the Bulldoze Nature Bill, goes even further.

This bill would allow Cabinet to designate entire “regions of national interest” where industrial megaprojects, like pipelines, would be exempt from environmental laws and pre-approved, bypassing critical safeguards. It would also allow construction to begin before final approvals and give ministers sweeping powers to weaken or remove environmental conditions.

The consequences for wildlife would be devastating. This bill would put fish habitat and endangered wildlife, such as the Southern Resident Killer Whale and vulnerable caribou populations, at risk. It would also shorten environmental review timelines, reduce public transparency and make meaningful Indigenous consultation impossible.

There is no undo button for ecological damage. Once the places and wildlife we love are gone, we don’t get them back. The government is already fast-tracking megaprojects like the Pacific Link Pipeline under the existing Building Canada Act. Now, it wants the power to create entire regions where endangered wildlife and ecosystems could be pushed to the brink.

Environmental laws are not red tape. They ensure major projects are properly assessed, and that communities as well as Indigenous rights are considered. They protect wildlife and ecosystems from irreversible harm. They help projects move forward in the best interests of Canadians, not private shareholders.

Tell your MP: Vote against Bill C-39, the Bulldoze Nature Bill, and protect Canada’s environmental laws. Building a strong Canada means protecting the communities, waters and wildlife that make this country worth building.

Your letter will be sent to your local Member of Parliament, The Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada; The Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of Environment and Climate Change; and The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of the One Canadian Economy.

TAKE ACTION
Bill C-39, the Bulldoze Nature Bill, would weaken environmental protections, undermine Indigenous rights and put communities, wildlife and nature at risk. Tell the Federal Government and your MP to reject this bill.
