People power WORKED! We stopped jets from taking over Toronto’s waterfront.
Toronto area MPs received THOUSANDS of letters and calls from their constituents demanding that they say NO to the proposed expansion of the Toronto Island Airport.
Federal leaders announced that they are grounding the plan for jets at the Toronto Island Airport. This decision is a major win for community power and democratic participation.
Now, the federal government must fill the empty seats on the Toronto Port Authority board with people who oppose jets at the Toronto Island Airport, and any changes that would compromise the health of our waterfront, parks, environment and people. This federal decision should push the Ontario government to return all expropriated waterfront and Toronto Island lands back to the City of Toronto.
Send a letter now to let federal leaders know that Toronto residents are grateful they said NO to jets. And, that we are looking to the federal government to continue to say NO to more air, noise and water pollution, NO to lost parks and community spaces, NO to debilitating gridlock, and NO to the cancelling of much-needed new housing.
