Tell Canada we need stronger laws to protect us from harmful pesticides like glyphosate
Every day, Canadians are exposed to toxic chemicals that are linked to health conditions like cancer, asthma and behavioural problems such as ADHD. Glyphosate, Canada’s top-selling weed killer, is of particular concern because of its links to cancer and presence in common food products that children eat.
Glyphosate, the key ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup, was found in 80 per cent of the food products we tested including Cheerios, Tim Hortons timbits and Fontaine Santé hummus. This is alarming because, in 2015, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer declared this pesticide a “probable carcinogen.”
Despite glyphosate’s link to cancer and other risks, Health Canada decided in 2017 to continue to allow its use for another 15 years. This is unlike other countries like France, Austria and Germany who are making moves to significantly restrict or ban glyphosate.
Tell Canada that we need stronger laws to protect us from harmful chemicals, and to take immediate action on chemicals of high concern like glyphosate.
