TELL SOBEYS TO PROTECT WORKERS AND DITCH TOXICS ON RECEIPTS

Every day, cashiers across Canada are exposed to high levels of hormone-disrupting bisphenols (like BPA and BPS) from receipts. Canada’s leading grocery retailer, Sobeys, needs to protect their cashiers and customers by getting rid of these toxic receipts. Costco Canada, Loblaws, Metro and Walmart Canada have all committed to phase out bisphenols, so why is Sobeys lagging?

Exposure to bisphenols is increasingly linked to health conditions such as ADHD in children, reproductive health problems, obesity and hormone-related cancers such as breast and prostate cancer. Toxic bisphenols are no longer needed on receipts because safer alternatives, such as bisphenol-free receipts, are readily available.

Everyone deserves a safe and healthy work environment. That’s why we, alongside the largest union representing retail workers, United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW Canada), Breast Cancer Action Quebec and Mind the Store, urge Sobeys to take immediate action.

Tell Sobeys to protect their cashiers and customers by getting rid of receipts coated with hormone disrupting bisphenols today.
