Tell Ontario not to sell off our water to Nestlé!

When the clock strikes midnight on December 31, big water bottlers like Nestlé will be able to ask the government to take even more Ontario water for profit unless we take action now! Nestlé alone already pumps 4.7 million litres of water each day from wells in Aberfoyle and Erin, Ont. They want to draw even more, but there’s a ban on new water bottling operations in Ontario right now.

Unfortunately, the ban is set to expire at the end of the year. When it does, corporate bottlers will be able to take millions more liters of water from Ontario, and sell it back to us in plastic bottles.

Time is running out. The government needs to intervene quickly to stop the ban from expiring. The ban was put in place so the government could research Ontario’s groundwater and make sure decisions on who gets to take water are informed by the latest science.

That’s why it’s essential that we take action now and tell the Ontario government to keep the ban on new permits in place.
