Tell Canada to stop delaying action and protect Canadians from toxic chemicals
The Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), the law that’s supposed to safeguard our health and environment from toxics in makeup, furniture and food packaging is now over 20 years old. And in many ways, the toxics problem has become much worse over the last 20 years.
Unfortunately, ongoing exposure to toxics like BPA and phthalates are contributing to rising rates of chronic disease, asthma and ADHD in children and breast cancer in women.
The federal government has committed to reforming CEPA during this term of office. But the clock is ticking. If a bill is not introduced this year, we may not see action for many years.
It’s time for a stronger law that can protect us from toxics and ensure that vulnerable people like children, women and marginalized communities are protected. If the government is serious about protecting Canadians, it needs to fast track action or else the law will remain outdated and continue to fail us all.
Tell the federal government to keep its promise and introduce updates to our toxics law this year.
