CANADA: INVEST IN PEOPLE NOT POLLUTERS
The federal government recently announced a large stimulus package intended to support workers, families, businesses, and industry during these challenging and unprecedented times. People across the country are struggling, and this support is a much-needed step in the right direction.
But big polluters, including executives and lobbyists from the oil and gas sector and plastics industry, are using the COVID-19 crisis as an opportunity to get ahead, and increase the size of the subsidies their sectors already receive. They’ve even used this dire situation to try and justify rollbacks to climate protection and ending plastic pollution.
Tell the federal government to not spend billions of dollars on handouts to oil, gas and petrochemical companies. Instead, demand that they make investments which will increase employment, improve the ability of society to withstand future threats and help transition to a cleaner economy.
To read our specific investment recommendations, please expand the letter to government.
With the right investments, we can build an economy and society that are stronger and more resilient than before the crisis began.
