Canada: Invest in a Green Recovery and Resist the Oil Industry’s Demands
In the coming weeks and months, the federal government will be making big decisions about how to restart the Canadian economy from the damaging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This critical time should be used to create a Green Recovery package capable of shifting Canada towards a stronger and fairer society.
But oil, gas and petrochemical companies are pushing the federal government to funnel recovery spending into their pockets instead. Worse yet, these big polluters are using the health crisis as an opportunity to try and roll back climate protection, stop efforts to ban disposable plastic, and halt the reform of laws that could better protect Canadians from toxic chemicals and pollution.
Tell the federal government that you do not want them to spend billions of dollars on handouts to oil, gas and petrochemical companies. Instead, demand that they make investments which will increase employment, improve the ability of society to withstand future threats and help transition to a cleaner economy.
To read our specific investment recommendations, please expand the letter to government.
Tell the federal government to fund the Green Recovery!
