Prime Minister Trudeau: Don't let Canada miss its methane reduction target!

In 2016, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised that Canada would reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by a minimum of 40-45 per cent by the year 2025. But delays and weak regulations by the federal government now mean that Canada won’t meet this commitment. Instead, a reduction of less than 30 per cent will be achieved by the deadline.

Missing the methane reduction target is a big deal - why? Methane is a highly potent greenhouse gas that contributes greatly to climate change, and the technologies and practices capable of reducing methane emissions are available and well understood by both government and industry. These solutions aren’t even expensive, making methane reduction one of the most affordable climate solutions available today.

Urge Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to fulfill his commitment to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by strengthening federal regulations. This push is vital to ensure that industry doesn’t stall in using the inexpensive and readily available solutions to fight climate change - there isn’t time to lose.

Your letter will be sent to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Jonathan Wilkinson.
