Tell Ontario not to hand protected wetlands, forests and habitat over to developers!
One by one the Provincial government has stripped away legal environmental protections to help sprawl developers. Now Premier Ford has hidden another gift for his developer friends in an omnibus Bill about broadband internet.
Schedule 3 of Bill 257 amends the Planning Act so that Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZOs) won’t even have to comply with Ontario’s most basic planning principles, except inside the Greenbelt.
If Schedule 3 becomes law, provincially significant wetlands, watersheds, natural heritage sites and many more places which were protected could be served up to sprawl developers whenever the Minister wishes.
Worse, the change would be retroactive. So even if an MZO was illegal when it was issued it still couldn't be challenged in court.
Ontario's so-called protected places will not be safe unless we remove Schedule 3 from Bill 257. Take action to tell Minister Steve Clark, and your MPP, to remove Schedule 3.
Your email will also be submitted to the Environmental Registry of Ontario's consultation on proposed changes to the Planning Act.
