TELL ONTARIO TO PHASE OUT DIRTY FOSSIL GAS - NOT BURN MORE
The climate emergency becomes more evident every day. While governments the world over invest in renewables to meet their growing electricity needs, the Ontario government is preparing to burn more gas - a fossil fuel - instead.
Much more gas.
By 2030, greenhouse gas pollution from Ontario’s gas plants will increase by 375 per cent, compared to 2017 levels. By 2040, it will be up more than 600 per cent.
Ontario’s gas plants are already some of the biggest polluters in the province, and big emitters of dangerous nitrous oxide gases too, which could impact local communities' health. If Canada is going to have a hope of reaching zero emissions by 2050, its second largest emitting province needs to phase out dirty fossil gas - not burn more.
Tell Ontario to stop the gas ramp up, and phase it out instead.
Your letter will go to Premier Ford and the leaders of all the major Ontario opposition parties: Steven Del Duca (Ontario Liberal), Andrea Horwath (Ontario NDP) and Mike Schreiner (Ontario Green), Minister of Energy Todd Smith, Minister of the Environment David Piccini, and your local MPP.
