Dear Jim,
This week in Toronto, we saw a big win for public transit, traffic relief, and safer, more efficient streets — and it wouldn’t have happened without you! Thanks to the input of transit riders, environmentalists, community advocates, and supporters like you, Mayor Olivia Chow’s Executive Committee voted to approve dedicated transit lanes on Bathurst and Dufferin Streets, south of Bloor, to be ready for the 2026 FIFA World Cup next summer! The City also committed to setting a timeline to extend the full RapidTO routes north to Eglinton and Wilson. Whether you signed our letter, filled out the City’s survey, or contacted your councillor, your voice was heard. This win shows what’s possible when people speak up! Better public transit means faster, more reliable commutes for tens of thousands of riders and less gridlock for everyone. It’s a key step toward a healthier, more sustainable city that reduces pollution. Even the Toronto Region Board of Trade - who represent local business interests - are celebrating the decision as a “bold, evidence-based solution” to address Toronto’s traffic congestion. This victory sets an example, for other transit routes across Toronto, and for cities and provinces across Canada. We can’t stop here. We need all levels of government to work together on long-term, reliable funding and solutions that support the transit systems people rely on and help build a better future.
